Product Summary:
Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a common and frustrating condition affecting men, mostly those over 40 years old. Cell proliferation can enlarge the prostate gland which then puts pressure on the urethra, and can cause weak urine flow, incomplete voiding, and frequent urination. More than half of North American men over 60 have symptoms of prostate enlargement. BPH is also considered a risk factor for prostate cancer. Saw palmetto extract, from the berries of a South American palm (Serenoa repens), is a traditional herbal used to support prostate health and prevent BPH. Saw palmetto appears to inhibit the release of dihydrotestosterone (DHT) a metabolite of testosterone that increases cell proliferation. Saw palmetto is believed to achieve these results by inhibiting certain enzymes that increase DHT secretion. Key nutrients also support the prostate. Zinc depletion is a primary risk factor for BPH. Lycopene, a carotenoid from tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum), and pumpkin seeds and their oil (Cucurbita pepo) are natural ways to counter BPH.
